#Mondaymakes: Delicious dog treats

For this weeks #Mondaymakes I baked Kirsty Allsopp’s dog biscuits that went down a treat with Ruby ahead of her 7th Birthday.

What you need:

– Baking tray lined with greaseproof paper
– Bowl
– Wooden spoons
– Measuring scales
– Teaspoon/ measuring cups
– Rolling pin
– Oven gloves
– Cooling rack
– Measuring jug
– Cookie cutter
Ingredients (makes about 20 biscuits)
Depending upon your cutter size- the recipe says it makes 20 biscuits but I baked smaller ones for my Shih-Tzu and got 80 out of the mix.
– 350 grams plain flour
– 1 egg
– A low salt chicken stock cube
– 2 tablespoons dried parsley
– 120 ml hot water
(I used chicken legs and made my own stock so that I knew exactly what Ruby was eating)

STEPS:

1. Preheat your oven at 200C
2. Dissolve the stock cube into hot water in a bowl
(If like me you want to make your own stock, Use 4 chicken legs and 300 ml water and boil them. I used my slow cooker for 8 hours)
3. Add the flour, egg and parsley to the stock and mix together until you form a dough
4. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it forms a ball – you need to add a tiny bit more water at this stage.
5. Then roll the dough out evenly until it’s half an inch thick approx
6. Cut out shapes using your cookie cutter
7. Place the cut out biscuits on a baking tray that is lined with greaseproof paper
8. Cook in the centre of the oven for 20 – 30 minutes, until they are golden brown
Allow to cool before serving, then let your pet pooch enjoy!
(I used both fresh dried parsley from garden and dried parsley from a jar. I found the jarred parsley cooked better)
